After my regular radiation session the techs took some measurements to double checked the plate that was cut for my “direct” radiation treatment. All of the radiation I have been receiving so far has been “general”, meaning that it covers the entire breast and goes deep into the skin. All the way through to my lungs, it even hits a 3mm depth of lung tissue. My last five treatments will be directed radiation that only affects a very specific area of skin. Which means a plate has been cut into the shape of the scar area that needs to be treated. This radiation will be a lower dose and will only penetrate the tissue by about 1cm. It is referred to as a “boost”.
