Today I met with the plastic surgeon to discuss my options for reconstruction, should I decide to have it done. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I felt almost as if I was at a spa with the exception of all the medical equipment on the desk. Marc and I got to hold all of the different types of implants, saline or gel. They were weird and the saline ones were like water balloons, not for me! Personally I don’t want implants at all. I was told that reconstruction after a mastectomy is the easiest because they are starting from a “clean plate”. I however have had a lumpectomy so I have most of my original breast with a nice big “dent” in it. The tissue has been radiated and apparently radiated tissue isn’t easy to work with. So here are my options:
1. Leave my breasts “as is”
2. Rearrange the remaining fatty tissue in the cancer breast to create a normal breast shape and then have a breast reduction in the other breast to bring it down to the same size.
3. Take fatty tissue from my tummy or back and bring it into my cancer breast to match the other breast then reduce the other breast if needed.
4. Get two different size implant in each breast with the larger implant on the cancer side. Overall I would have to go a bit larger in breast size then I am.
